The Miami Springs Police Department has 2 K-9 units. Officer Darryl Cates is partnered with Thor, a Belgian Malinois, and Officer Albert Sandoval is partnered with Grando, a German shepherd.
K-9 units work different patrol shifts but they are sometimes called out as needed to search for a suspect or sniff-out narcotics. The officers and their well-trained K-9s have led to the arrests of numerous suspects who hid from police both inside a home or business and outside. Whether daylight or dark, it’s rare for a fleeing suspect to evade police K-9s.
