The Miami Springs Police Department has a small boat with an outboard motor that’s used on city waterways. Currently, six police officers are certified to operate the vessel. During special events, such as the Springs River Festival, an officer patrols the Miami River in case someone accidentally falls in. The boat can be used in any city waterway in case of an accident of any kind or to check on alligator sightings and reports involving manatees. The boat could also be used for emergencies in case of flooding.
