Bike patrol officers are assigned to different shifts on an as-needed basis. Presently, there are 5 certified bike officers who received special training at a Bicycle Officer Academy. Whenever manpower permits, bike officers patrol on the day, afternoon and midnight shifts. By using bikes, officers are able to patrol certain areas and observe things they couldn’t see in a patrol car. And it’s also a way to allow officers to interact with residents and business people.
