“Welcome to the new Miami Springs Police website. It has been designed to be informative and helpful to residents and businesses in our city. Our goal is to serve and inform citizens about the numerous services we provide, and educate people on ways to avoid becoming victims. I feel that the website will help provide a better understanding of the duties we perform and what our citizens can do to help maintain the integrity and safety of our beautiful community.”
Organization
The Miami Springs Police Department has 41 sworn officers and 22 civilian employees. Chief Peter G. Baan is a 34-year veteran of the department, having begun his career as a dispatcher, then going to the Police Academy and rising though the ranks to the top position. He oversees a command staff that includes a Captain, 3 Lieutenants, and 5 Sergeants. The patrol division is comprised of 16 patrol officers, 4 motorcycle officers, 2 K-9 teams and 5 bicycle officers. The duties are divided among squads that cover four shifts: morning, afternoon, midnight, and a relief shift that works variable hours to allow regular shift officers to have days off. Two Public Service Aides assist officers by handling minor reports. The investigations division has 5 detectives that follow up on crimes; however, major crimes such as homicide and sexual battery are turned over to Miami-Dade County detectives under a mutual aid agreement. The Community Policing Office works closely with members of the community by sharing crime prevention information, settling disputes and implementing and promoting programs for both youngsters and adults that help make the community a safe place in which to live and work.
