Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)
Eemergency ContactIinformation system (ECI)

September 17, 2008 As you probably know, it has been two years since the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) implemented a new emergency contact information system (ECI) that allows Florida motorists to voluntarily register emergency contact information online using their Florida driver licenses or Florida identification cards. The information can then be accessed by law enforcement officers to notify designated contacts if a person is seriously injured or killed in a traffic crash or for non-traffic related incidents as well. To date, 1.3 million people have entered their information into the system but with over 15 million drivers in the state of Florida, we have a long way to go to reach our participation goals. In order to alert as many drivers as possible about this opportunity and service, we are asking for your help. One of the best ways to encourage registration is providing the public as many opportunities as possible to input their emergency contact information. We are reaching out to you to ask you to consider placing an ECI link on your Web site. The ECI link button below can be automatically linked to the DHSMV web for easy access and easy input. Additionally, we would like you to consider putting ECI in your new employee orientation, provide flyers to your neighborhood watch groups, crime prevention initiatives, student resource officers or business association meetings. Whenever you see a good opportunity, we would appreciate you sharing the program and we are happy to provide you flyers and other information for your use. To receive this information, please contact our communications specialist, Linda Knight at 850-617-3121. I appreciate anything you can do to help us get this vital program in front of as many people as possible. Our partnership will allow us to reach more people than if we were individually pursuing the effort. I believe it truly makes a difference in the lives of the Floridians we serve. Thank you, Electra Theodorides-Bustle Executive Director Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles ECI Button -
